We genuinely believe in sustainability, ensuring that we always communicate our plans for sustainable business travel directly to our travellers, offering an eco-friendly option at the time of booking.

Sustainability in business travel is about having awareness of the factors that may contribute to the social and environmental impacts of travelling. Taking accountability for these consequences is the key to moving forward, allowing us to create plans that will help to reduce the negative impacts of the social and environmental issues that travelling heavily contributes to.

How do you know if you have a sustainable business travel policy?

At Clarity, we make sure all of our research, resources and plans surrounding sustainability are shared. We share our findings and our steps to contribute to a more sustainable travel service where possible. It is essential that as a business, we understand how to make environmentally friendly decisions and travel options that are readily available to share with our travellers, allowing them to make informed sustainable decisions.

Our top tips to help you identify and contribute to sustainable business travel.

Making better choices.

Promoting sustainability throughout the whole booking process is a good way to implement the most sustainable options available. Offering a more eco-friendly option provides travellers with the option to choose their mode of transport based on how eco-friendly they are.

When it comes to booking with Clarity, our travellers can filter the search results not only by price and duration but by lower Co2 emissions too. This provides a smooth, easy process with a clear indication of the eco-friendly alternative to select if they wish.

Destination & Accommodation

Destination and accommodation play a crucial part in the contribution to sustainable travel. Choosing to travel to an eco-conscious destination is one of the most important choices travellers can make. Selecting accommodation that values sustainability and has a policy in place to support those values is also a priority.

How do they promote sustainability? Are they verified for low carbon emissions? Do they consider sustainability a priority?

These are just some of the factors that you should consider. Clarity works hard to ensure these factors are considered when offering destinations to travel to and places to stay, meaning the option is there if our travellers wish to take it.

Providing a more sustainable alternative where possible should always be a main priority!

Go Paperless!

A simple way to contribute; go paperless with the travel documents!

A small change that has a potentially huge impact on sustainability. A change that we can all work together on, needing minimal effort yet providing maximum results.

Waving goodbye to traditional paper travel documents helps by reducing potential waste and energy use. As a business or a traveller, the promotion of going digital for travel documents is a must.

Mode of transport

It’s no secret that flying isn’t always deemed the best way to travel when it comes to sustainability.

However, air travel is sometimes the only viable option when travelling to certain destinations. Providing travellers with the opportunity to travel on a more eco-friendly airline enables them to offset their carbon footprint and contribute to more eco-friendly travel when flying is the only option.

Although air travel plays a huge part in the problem, it isn’t the sole contributor to the carbon footprint that travel leaves behind, most modes of transport have a negative impact, but the majority have a cleaner alternative too!

Other modes of transport that provide a more sustainable alternative to the usual include high-speed trains that can be up to three times more energy efficient than the normal rail services.

Food and plastic waste

Food and plastic waste come hand in hand with travel.

Single-use plastic packaging and bottles are one of the most prominent issues to the environment that we experience today, including extreme danger to wildlife.

Eating and drinking on the go usually mean that single-use plastic is involved.

Try wherever possible to prepare your food in reusable containers for your journey. If this isn’t a viable option, try and purchase your consumables from places that value sustainability and use recyclable materials where possible, the sort of establishments that have swapped from plastic straws to paper ones!

Think about cutting down

When planning a business trip, why not look to incorporate more than one?

If you have a few meetings in the pipeline around the same location, try to plan smarter to decrease unnecessary travelling which in turn will have a positive effect on the carbon footprint.

If travel is essential but the destination isn’t of significance, look at a destination with a shorter travel time and one that can be reached with the most eco-friendly mode of transport.

If travelling involves the use of an automobile, think about carpooling to reduce the amount of transport needed and always try to choose the Hybrid/electric option when available.

At Clarity, we are aware of just how serious sustainability is in today’s society and the current climate. As a business, we accept the responsibility of contributing positively to sustainability and are always developing strategies to reduce our carbon footprint as much as that of our travellers.
